July 12, 2009 – Maple Grove Stuff to Know

“And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8)

Instructions for the Christian life from the Book of Hebrews
The book of Hebrews is full of instructions to guide us in our walk with Jesus. On July 5 Hebrews 12:14-17challenged us to be at peace with everyone and also at peace with God. We do this so that others may know the love and forgiveness of God that we have experienced in our own lives.
July 12 we Hebrews 13:15-16. Offering sacrifices was an important part of Israel’s worship. We don’t need to sacrifices animals to cover our sins and show our obedience; Jesus is the sacrifice that covers the sins of the world. Because of Jesus in our lives, we are called to offer a different kind of sacrifice. We offer sacrifices to God through our praise, our good works and by sharing with others. Music in the Meadow is a great opportunity to offer a sacrifice to God. Our spiritual passion will be renewed as we offer the sacrifices that God really desires.

ELDER NOMINATIONS
We continue our search for the person God wants as an Elder of Maple Grove. None of those with at least three nominations accepted the nomination, so we started again.
Nomination forms were distributed in worship last Sunday and a nomination box for elder is in the foyer today.
Our church constitution tells us that “Elders and Pastors shall have demonstrated that they possess the qualifications found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.” In addition the following is stipulated: “The selection of Elder shall be a spiritual experience for the candidate and the congregation. Members are encouraged to share their conviction by nominating a candidate. Qualified persons receiving at least three nominations shall be considered as possible candidates. The final selection shall be processed by the Leadership Team and affirmed by the congregation with a 75% vote.”

100TH ANNIVERSARY OF MAPLE GROVE
Printed invitations and envelopes to our 100th Anniversary Celebration on August 16 are available in the foyer. Please take what you need to make a personal invitation to a friend or family member.
Our new church history book is here! “Celebrating 100 Years: Maple Grove Mennonite Church 1909-2009” is available for a donation of $15. We give a special thanks to Melba King (Author) and Cathy Case (Editor and Layout) for all the work they put into preparing this book.

BAPTISM INSTRUCTION CLASS
A baptism instruction class will begin after VBS. The class is for anyone interested in learning the basics of the Christian Faith and preparing for baptism. It will be held one evening every week through the summer months. Baptism is August 30. Contact Pastor Steve for more information or to sign-up.
