LOOKING BACK – LOOKING FORWARD
Problems can bring change. 65 years ago, on April 19, 1943, the roof blew off the Millwood Mennonite Church building. There was a lot of damage; “both ends were blow out and bricks were torn loose about three feet from the square.” At the time, Maple Grove and Millwood were together as one congregation meeting in two places, alternating weeks between the two buildings. During reconstruction, until July 4, all worship services were held in the Maple Grove building.
It must have given the Maple Grove folks a taste of what weekly worship services would be like. On July 18 the entire congregation voted to hold worship separately in both houses of worship. This began a movement to separate the two congregations in other ways. On April 17, 1944 a group from Maple Grove met secretly to draw up a resolution asking the Conference to intervene. After a long and divisive process, on September 19, 1944, by a 69% vote, Maple Grove and Millwood effectively became two separate churches.
What if the roof didn’t blow off the Millwood church? Things might be very different. Hopefully we don’t need a disaster and church division to bring positive change.

PRAY FOR OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM
The Leadership Team will meet on Monday. The LT is charged with providing vision, oversight and direction for the congregation. Their ministry is to see that the various ministries of the congregation are being attended to and are in tune with the mission and vision of the congregation.
